India U-19 squad for Asia Cup announced

The ICC's latest list of recommendations expressed its desire to prevent the Under 19 players from playing the shortest format by doing away with the U-19 T20 World Cup. Despite that though the 50 over format still holds fort and is still available for the youngsters to exploit. India will look to do just that when it sends its young talent to Malaysia for the Asia Cup that starts on the 23rd of June 2012.

India's squad for the tournament will be led by the Delhi batsman Unmukt Chand, who would be quite confident after a modest stint in this season of the Indian Premier League with the Delhi Daredevils. Akshdeep Nath has been given the responsibility of being the vice captain and the squad also features an interesting pick in the form of Sanju V Samson. Sanju is the fifth cricketer from Kerala to feature in an India U-19 squad and will don the gloves behind the wickets. Apart from his keeping skills, the man from Kerala is also known to be handy with the bat.

For India, the Asia Cup should prove to be the perfect platform to prepare for the Under-19 World Cup, that is set to be played in Australia, in the month of August, this year. Hence the tournament would prove to be a great incentive for players, who will be looking to break into the squad for the Under-19 World Cup.

The squad: Unmukt Chand (capt), Akshdeep Nath (vice-captain), Manan Vohra, Akhil A Herwadkar, B Aparajith, Vijay Zol, Smit Patel, Sanju V Samson, Kamal Passi, Mohsin Sayyad, Rush B Kalaria, Harmeet Singh, Vikas Mishra, Sandeep Sharma, Sandeepan Das
